Department Gets "Pluggie the Fire Plug" for Fire Prevention
Pluggie the Fire Plug is an exciting tool for teaching fire safety.  He looks like an ordinary fire hydrant until is cap rises and he comes alive.  His eyes, light up, he moves, speaks, listens and plays MP3's all by remote control.  Pluggie can be used with great success in school classrooms, assemblies, station tours, mail exhibits, state and local fairs, and any other settings.

Pluggie is just the right size for teaching children because he can communicate with them at their level.  He is agile enough to maneuver easily in school classrooms and other restricted areas.  Pluggie makes the fire safety program both fun and effective.

This is a great teaching tool for our area schools.

GFD Receives New Custom Built Fire Prevention Trailer
The newest addition to the Galena Volunteer Fire Department is the Velma E. Archer Memorial Safehouse for Kids.  This is a state of the art fire prevention trailer to teach kids safety.  Not only does the trailer assist with teaching fire prevention and safety but it also assists with teaching severe weather safety.  The trailer was built by Mobile Concepts of Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania.

The trailer was donated by the 5 Mile Camp for Kids which serves kids in Galena, Riverton and Baxter Springs.

It will be a valuable asset as the kids can be taught fire prevention activities and weather activities at the schools instead of having the kids bused to the fire station.

The trailer has 3 separate areas so that 3 different class can be held at once.

The department appreciates the the support of the 5 Mile Camp and the Archer Family for all they have done for the department, and their concern for the welfare and education of the kids of the Four State Area.
